We all know that the start of Wimbledon means only one thing: it’s Strawberry time again! However, as much as we love the traditional strawberry and cream combo, sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of a change.
So, if you’re feeling a little adventurous this summer, here are a few different things you can do with the humble strawberry.
1. Strawberries with black pepper
Now this may sound a little weird, but actually a sprinkling of black pepper is the perfect accompaniment to fresh strawberries. The pepper actually intensifies their taste making a simple and healthy treat.
2. Sweet and Savoury Strawberry Bruschetta
Fancy a little lunchtime snack? Spread toasted baguette slices with goat cheese. Top with chopped strawberries and shredded basil or mint.
Season to taste with a little pepper.
3. Strawberry Guacamole
A perfect summer’s day picnic dip. Just chop up an avocado and some strawberries. Mix together with chopped mint and a squeeze of lime juice. Serve with tortilla chips or crisps for dipping.
4. Peanut Butter and Strawberry Toast
A nice simple breakfast treat. Spread some toast with peanut butter and top with slices of fresh strawberries. No need to call in Jamie Oliver to prepare this one.
5. Sweet Strawberry Vinaigrette
Simply mash a handful of strawberries in a bowl with a fork or potato masher. Whisk in 60 ml of balsamic vinegar (preferably white balsamic). Slowly whisk in 60 ml olive oil. Drizzle over your favourite green salad.
