Curry Hotline, Bristol: Review of the Week
It is great to receive a recommendation for a takeaway that turns out to be everything you were promised – even better when you find somewhere on your own, by chance, and it quickly becomes a firm favourite.
This weeks Review of the Week winner, Martin, did exactly that and we are really happy that hungryhouse was able to help!
“I had been given a number for another takeaway service which had come recommended. – Having got all excited about it, I found that their “driver went home early tonight.”
It was by chance, therefore, that I found Curry Hotline. It was 11pm and I had just 20 minutes to place my order. Not only was my order accepted, it was delivered in double quick time.
The mixed starter of kebab, tandoori chicken and bhaji was excellent. The bhaji, in particular, was perfect. (So many tend to be greasy and undercooked.) I could have eaten nothing but these and been satisfied. Can’t wait to order more.
The Lamb Rogan Ghosht was the real star of the show. I am something of an afficionado of this dish as, done properly, there is nothing to touch it. – Sadly I have had some very disappointing experiences in the past. This was perfectly cooked, tender lamb with just the right amount of spices.
Not the best I’ve ever had but definitely pretty damn close!
My wife had the Chicken Korma which, although nothing wrong with it, was perhaps a little too ‘sweet’. – I think this is more down to the fact that Kormas are ‘baby curries’. Our tastes develop for spicier dishes and the Korma tends to get left behind. So more a case of changing tastes rather than anything wrong with the Korma. – Always a good ‘entry level’ dish for beginners.
Excellent Keema Naan and the chapatis were of exactly the right consistency. (Leftover curry wrapped in a nice floury, slightly chewy, chapati the next morning is one of life’s pleasures.)
Finally, mention must be made of the Pilau Rice. – Rice is often overlooked as simply an accompaniment but, for me, it is an important co-star. This stuff was perfectly cooked and also delicately flavoured, the hints of cinnamon hitting just the right notes.
Round that off with the fact that it was all very reasonably priced and you have at least two happy customers on Thursday night.
As for the other lot? Their delivery driver can have every night off as far as I’m concerned.
Well done Curry Hotline!”
