The Five Best Burger Moments on Film

Burgers, a favourite food of many and arguably the national food of the USA, have featured significantly in films over the years.  They’ve been the subject of some memorable dialogue (“royale with cheese”), provided the backdrop to an entire movie (Clerks II) and even been the parodied in animation (Krusty Burger, Cartman Burger).  You might say they’re the unsung hero of Hollywood.  With that in mind, we thought we’d salute the burger’s role in the movies with our five favourite burger moments on film.

Pulp Fiction

Burgers feature heavily in the films of Quentin Tarantino but it’s this standout scene from the mighty Pulp Fiction that’s the most memorable.  Charismatic hitman Jules Winnfield, played by a mesmerizing Samuel L Jackson, enjoys a Big Kahuna burger, the “cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast”, whilst on the job.

American Beauty

Lester Burnham, played by Kevin Spacey, quits his office job and takes a job at a fast food burger joint only to discover his wife’s infidelity when she places an order at the drive-thru. “Smile! You’re at Mr Smiley’s” is his sardonic greeting…

Falling Down

An unhinged Michael Douglas just wants his breakfast and so doesn’t respond well when he discovers it’s off the menu at his local burger restaurant.  The replacement burger he receives doesn’t go down too well either.

Eagle vs Shark

It’s not just Hollywood that can claim some great burger moments.  New Zealand has this hilarious offering from Eagle vs Shark.  Lily, an employee at Big Boy Burger, awkwardly attempts to chat up Jermaine from Flight of the Concords with talk of extra fries and cheese…

Dumb and Dumber

The hapless Lloyd and Harry struggle with some rather spicy food before inadvertently killing off their adversary in this burger restaurant scene from the classic Dumb and Dumber.  It’s not particularly clever but it is very very funny with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels being at their overblown very best.

So, do you agree with our list?  Is there a classic burger movie moment that we’ve missed out?   Let us know in the comments section below!
