A year ago, hungryhouse.co.uk joined up with Action Against Hunger, a leading humanitarian charity, to help vulnerable people in their struggle against hunger and malnutrition. We have since donated 10p to Action Against Hunger for every order over £15 made through our website.

We'd like to thank everyone for playing their part by ordering through hungryhouse. The first year of the deal just ended and our director, Shane, got to realise a life-long ambition of presenting a great big cheque to charity!

Here he is - suited and booted - with Jean Michel Grand, AAH’s Executive Director, and James Lam - the owner of one of our most popular restaurants, Friends Oriental Food Hall in London.

Shane presents Action Against Hunger with a donation of £8309.80, generated by your orders.

When hungryhouse started this partnership a year ago, the idea was to make it easy for anyone who orders their takeaway online to also feel good about doing something to help. Many people would like to do more for one good cause or another, but often sacrificing time just isn’t an option. By acting collectively, you’ve helped hungryhouse raise £8,309.80 this year. We know this will make a huge difference for real people - families and children - who find themselves in desperate situations all over the world.

To put in perspective what this £8,310 raised by our customers will achieve - it costs just £5 for a full meal for 25 children. £27 is enough to pay for a survival kit that will save the life of a severely malnourished child, and £250 can pay for antibiotic treatment for 300 malnourished children in one of their therapeutic feeding centres.

All funds we've raised, go directly to Action Against Hunger, helping the charity to provide for people’s immediate needs when food is scarce, and to provide families with the tools, seeds and support they need to build a sustainable future.

Jean Michel Grand, the charity’s Executive Director, comments - “We are extremely grateful to hungryhouse.co.uk for supporting our work through this scheme. This has proved to be a great way for people to join us in tackling child hunger and malnutrition worldwide, with funds raised through the scheme having far exceeded our expectations.”

Thanks once again for playing your part this year. hungryhouse’s support for Action Against Hunger is ongoing, and - of course - we’re aiming to smash 2008’s total in 2009!

Have a great Christmas! And remember HUNGRYHOUSE once you’re sick of leftover turkey!
