Chunky Chips, Gateshead

Chunky Chips, Gateshead

We all have our own habits and patterns for ordering a takeaway. For some of us it's a welcome substitute to cooking after a hard day. For others it's a treat to look forward to. For our Review of the Week winner Samantha, a takeaway is a must-have accompaniment for good TV shows on a Saturday night. I think we're with Samantha on this one.

We give a big thanks to Samantha for a great review and for reminding us why we love takeaway!

"Like many people in the UK I have spent tonight glued to the TV watching The Voice. When watching good tv only a takeaway will do, so I decided to head over to hungryhouse and place an order.

I chose to order from Chunky Chips on Coatsworth Road in Gateshead.

*Delivery £1

Delivered within 40 minutes. Not bad at half seven on a Saturday night! The delivery driver was very friendly and polite.

*12 inch Margherita with stuffed crust and onion £6.80

Delicious! So much cheese and a lovely soft and fluffy base. The crust was jam packed with cheese and there was plenty of onion which was finely chopped (I hate big chunks of onion). So, so good. Spot on in fact. This is the nicest pizza I have had in a very long time. Without the stuffed crust and onion this would have been £4.50 which is amazing value for a 12 inch pizza. Getting a topping and a stuffed crust as well for just £6.80 is really good. I've paid more than twice that from other takeaways. I highly recommend you give the pizza a try.

*Cheeseburger £2.00

£2.50 to £3.00 seems to be the average for cheeseburgers so this was great value at just £2.00. The bun was a really high quality soft and fluffy bun dusted with flour. The burger was full of flavour and not at all greasy with just the right amount of melted cheese. There was plenty of salad and I asked for a splash of chilli sauce which I got free of charge (many takeaways try to charge you for a full portion for just a tiny bit on your burger). Delicious.

*Large garlic sauce 90p

This is a massive portion for just 90p. It's the lovely thick and creamy kind of garlic sauce which is the kind I love. Great value and so tasty. Perfect.

*Slice of chocolate cake 65p

No, that isn't a mistype! This was just 65p! I usually go for the cheesecake as the chocolate cake from most takeaways is dry and unappealing but this was delicious. Covered in chocolate cream and chocolate shavings. Very moist and full of flavour. I'm not sure where they get their chocolate cake from but I hope they stick with this kind because it's lovely. A very good portion size and the price is so cheap. Such a bargain. Like most desserts this comes frozen from a bigger cake but it was ready to eat by the time we were done with the pizza and burger.

*Can of Dr Pepper 70p

Not bad value at 70p. The average seems to be 80p to 90p at most takeaways.

*Total cost of order £12.05

Overall I cannot rate the meal, service and value for money highly enough. This is a local takeaway and I often get a bag of chips from there but I have never tried their pizza or ordered from home before. They will be top of my list for ordering a takeaway in future though.

Full marks all round for Chunky Chips."
