Review of the week - Royal Gourmet, Tulse Hill
Where last week's Review of the Week was succinct, this week's winner offers a blow-by-blow, dish-by-dish account of the meal in question.
Keith chose Royal Gourmet based on the glowing user reviews and was not disappointed. Now he's returning the favour by contributing a detailed, engaging and downright charming review of his own.
A big thanks (and a £25 hungryhouse voucher!) to Keith for this extremely helpful review, and for reminding us of one of the reasons we started hungryhouse - to minimise the number of trips you need to take to "that" drawer searching for a takeaway menu!
"Starving hungry on a Monday and my favourite Chinese restaurant is closed. Nooooooooo!!! But Hungry House come to the rescue once again. I just typed in my postcode, selected a restaurant type and see what's on offer. A quick scan of the ratings and I've narrowed it down to two options. Then this is where Hungry House really comes into its own - the reviews. I haven't tried this place before but over a 100 other people have and have mostly nothing but good to say. Nuff said - choice made !
The food turned up 40 minutes later piping hot and delivered by a very happy driver who told me they didn't have bottles of Tango (a freebie offered by restaurant, with prawn crackers, for spending 20 quid) but they offered me 3 cans instead - brill.
The soups were as good as I've had anywhere else - not too salty.
The spare ribs had loads of meat on them unlike some places where its more spare than rib.
The pork balls were well cooked and not too greasy - I wasn't as keen on the sweet and sour sauce but its a small quibble.
The Special fried rice and Special Ho Fun were generous portions (large containers) with a good mix of the chicken, pork and prawns added. My wife thought there were too many onions in the Ho Fun but she's not a big fan of onions anyway.
All in all I will definitely eat here again and wish more restaurants would join Hungry House so I don't have to scrabble about in "that" drawer looking for take away menus or risk trying a takeaway I haven't used before without knowing what other people think of it."
