Sterling Wok, Reading

Let the game of Battleship begin! Our Review of the Week winner has developed a system that sums up each dish in a no fuss manner - HIT or MISS. After reading this review, we are certain at least one battleship was sunk - in a good way.

Sterling Wok delivered a variety of dishes including udon (hit), stir fried squid and pineapple (miss), stuffed crab claw (big miss), and tofu in black bean sauce (hit). For a full description of these dishes, read on.

JF wins a £25 hungryhouse voucher to fuel another round of takeaway Battleship.

"Ordered on Saturday evening around 5pm and arrived promptly 30 minutes later, Sterling Wok is approx 1.2 miles away so not far away to deliver.

Oriental Udon Noodles with Mixed Vegetables - HIT

Thick noodles with plenty of vegetables, arrived in a large metal container. An alternative to chow mein if you prefer thick noodles without beansprouts. Vegetables included onions, straw mushrooms, baby corn, etc.

Stir Fried Squid and Pineapple (tangy, fruity sauce) - MISS

Squid with onions and pineapple, sauce was red in appearance like sweet and sour but I didn't find it tangy nor fruity, a rather bland sauce and not pineapple in taste. I think an additional vegetable like peppers should be added.

Stuffed Crab Claw - BIG MISS

Truly disgusting, I've eaten crab claws before from other places and I thought that these would be miniature versions. However they were neither crab/prawn taste wise and tasted awful - stay away from these!

Tofu in Black Bean Sauce - HIT

Fried tofu with green peppers in a spicy black bean sauce. Definitely a dish worth buying again in the future - plenty of tofu and peppers.

Sweet and Sour King Prawn Hong Kong Style - HIT

A bit too much batter on the prawns but plenty of of them and sauce was fine.

Good value for money from Sterling Wok, more hits than misses with this order. Ordered before from Sterling Wok and will do so again however will avoid Stuffed Crab Claw in future!"
