Review of the week

Sukaria, Enfield

Sometimes the best things are right under your nose, you just need a little nudge to find them. This is how our Review of the Week winner, John, discovered Sukaria - a local Chinese takeaway in his neighbourhood.

Not only did John easily order online using a special offer, but he managed to please the whole family with his takeaway selection. He also scored points when the takeaway arrived just in time for the finals of Strictly Come Dancing.

With a happy family, satisfied appetite and £25 from hungryhouse - John ends 2011 right.

"Encouraged by a tempting `special discount' offer from hungryhouse we chose to sample the food from Sukaria, which, despite being very close to our house, we had never noticed before.

The ordering process was very straightforward and we were delighted to receive the two confirmatory follow-up e-mails within minutes.  We were even more delighted when the doorbell rang 15 minutes later and we were handed two bulging bags, complimentary prawn crackers uppermost, by a smiling scooter driver who bowed graciously when I profferred a small tip.

The food arrived just in time for us to get it dished out before the finals of "Strictly Come Dancing" - so we were pleased at the speed of it all.

As to the food - it was both delicious and plentiful, served in larger than average sized containers (particularly the egg fried rice).  My customary favourite, sweet and sour chicken balls (10 of them!) were huge and delicious with the usual sweet red sauce.

My son enjoyed his fried chilli cicken with cashew nuts - very similar to the familiar fried crispy beef, with a light coating of deep fried batter. My wife also enjoyed her fried chicken with mixed vegetables, all awash in a lovely savoury brown gravy.  Her only criticism was that the vegetable pieces were somewhat on the large size compared to what we have been used to from our usual Chinese.

We were so full that we left the vegetable (i.e plain noodles) chow mein altogether and my son scoffed the lot the following evening - he said it was just fine.

We will definitely re-visit Sukaria to try some of it's Thai or Malaysian dishes or perhaps push the boat out on one of the set meals which appear to offer very good value."
