hungryhouse takes a left hand turn

Thats right a new version of hungryhouse is launching this morning!

"We had a look at the logistics, and mirroring the layout of the site to accommodate left-handers only would take 1 hour of development time, so naturally we went for it!" says Senior Developer Eugene Bond.

hungryhouse did have to slightly redesign the page, as when mirrored all the buttons read backwards. The new left hand design will launch this morning April the 1st.

"We have always been proud of the fact that we listen to our customers and try to respond to what they want. We had been hearing calls for a left-handed site design for some time and were excited we could do this for our left-handed customers," says Graeme Horne, Marketing Director for hungryhouse.co.uk.

When asked, Tony Charles, Operations Director of hungryhouse if he thought it was a silly idea, he responded, "We recently did a study here at hungryhouse and found that over 70% of our users are left-handed, that’s huge. 70% is massive, we can't ignore something like that and we would be mental to not act."

"After the redesign we noticed a dramatic change in "accidental clicks" in beta testing. This has reduced the amount of time a person takes on their average order, boosting customer satisfaction. I don’t think that’s silly, the technology is there, we just applied it. This IS the future of ordering takeaway!"

The National Organization of Left-Handers for Equal Rights, or NOLHER estimates that nearly 48% of men and 47% of women are now left-handed. Nigel Smothers NOLHER's spokesman comments: "We are delighted that hungryhouse has recognised the difficulties of navigating websites that have been setup for right-handed people, as most websites have a right handed bias to them. We urge all left handed people to visit hungryhouse and try the design themselves"
