Was excited to see a Japanese takeaway close enough to deliver to me in South East London, although I wouldn't recommend getting the tempura if you're ordering a meal to take away as it was soggy by the time it arrived (this was within an hour of ordering which was good). The chicken teriyake was OK - tasted nice but it was let down with a lot of fatty skin on the chicken. The spicy beef noodles were good, and the chicken katsu with egg again was also nice. Soy sauce was not included and it wouldve been a nice touch if it was - as you would get if you were eating in-house, and also nothing was particularly "saucy". Nothing was oily though - cleaner and lighter than your usual takeaway and I would order from there again, but I will choose more carefully next time.

Food was 35 minutes late and as cold as the delivery driver was when he insisted I pay cash despite me paying through hungry house.
Wouldn't use again. William, SE1 |

Response from hungryhouse:
Hi William, I'm sorry to hear that there was some confusion over your card payment with your order to Poppy Hana and that, when you finally got to your food, it was cold. Because we sent your order to Poppy Hana by fax, I'm sure the restaurant manager will be just as surprised and disappointed as we were to learn that you were inconvenienced in this way, and I'm sure he'll take whatever action is necessary to ensure that his drivers are kept informed in future. This has got to be the best value Japanese food in London. We pushed the boat out and decided to have tempura, gyoza, teriyaki and miso soup as well as a range of the more exotic sushi and sashimi selections. From a taste and quality point of view everything hit the spot, and at a fraction of the cost you would expect at other establishments. We have just two small niggles: 1) please don't use slices of lemon to separate any of the sashimi - it tarnishes the fish with a bitter flavour and adds nothing to the look of the dish; 2) please could we have more sauce for both the tempura and the gyoza dumplings in future (or let us know what the sauces are called so we can buy our own for the store cupboard for when we order again). Thank you.

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience of Poppy Hana, the food was very plain.

Highly recommended! My black cod and aubergine miso bento box was absolutely delicious, the food arrived half an hour before it was estimated so no complaints! It wasn't cheap and the portion of fish wasn't huge, but then again, black cod isn't a cheap dish.

Another excellent sushi and sashimi feast from this welcome addition to the Bermondsey landscape. Unfortunately, they only packed one portion of uni (sea urchin) gunkan when two were ordered AND PAID FOR! At £4 a pop it was a very expensive oversight as far as I was concerned
