Review of the week - Hing Dragon

This week's Review of the Week is a touching tale of redemption - Zoe of South-East London gave an old favourite another chance, and was rewarded for her loyalty with a delicious meal. This just goes to show that even the best restaurants have off days, and as long as you keep the constructive reviews coming, restaurants will keep improving their food and service.

Zoe wins £25, which should buy about eight portions of Hing Dragon's "ideal" special fried rice if she feels so inclined.

"Ah, Hing Dragon...the prodigal son of South East London takeaways...

Following a recent meal which was utterly horrific, and landed entirely in the bin without passing "go" (i.e., my mouth), it was with some trepidation that I chanced Hing Dragon once again. I'd been elsewhere, and was happy, so why should I go back?

Well, one thing you can't fault Hing Dragon on is speed of service. They're at your door generally within 20 minutes of placing the order (distance permitting), and unfailingly polite and pleasant.

And I was hungry. I wanted my dinner YESTERDAY. If not sooner.

So I chanced it.

Whatever problems Hing Dragon might have had of late, they've clearly sorted them out. Nice crispy Won Ton, not too greasy, delicious chicken with cashews in yellow bean sauce, and the only way to describe the special fried rice is ideal - plenty of "special" in relation to rice, and not too greasy.

The only things that went in the bin were the containers."
