Why should I use the iPhone app?

Our iPhone app has been designed from the ground up to make better use of the smaller screen on your mobile device. Being a native app, it also launch faster than navigating to our website. And once you've opened each menu, you interact with it locally - meaning it's faster to browse and prepare your order.

Is there a tutorial?

How do I choose a restaurant?

To begin your search, tap on the My Order tab bar icon at the bottom of the screen. Then either enter your postcode, tap Nearby or choose from your list of previously saved addresses. Once the app knows where you are, it will display a list of restaurant delivering to your location.

You can use the filter button at the top-right of screen to narrow your selection (by open/closed, cuisine, your budget, etc.) You can also use the [-|+] buttons to the left of the filter to toggle through various display modes on the search results page. For example, you can show the cuisine and tagline against each restaurant, or the minimum order value, or "last orders".

Tap on the restaurant to open that listing. From there, you will have access to further details, customer reviews and the menu.

How do I view and interact with the menu?

First, select a restaurant as explained above. Then tap on the Order now... or Order for later... cell under the restaurant information. This will take you directly to the menu.

Each menu is made up of several sections (starters, pizza, etc.). Swipe up and down with one finger to scroll through the current section, or left and right to scroll between sections. You can also get an overview of the menu and jump directly to the desired section with the "section list" button at the top-right of screen.

To open an item, simply tap on it. Then make your choices and tap Add to basket to include the item in your order.

The approximate value of your order appears as a badge over the Checkout tab bar icon. You can view your basket by tapping the Checkout tab bar icon at the bottom of screen, and return to the menu by tapping the My Order tab bar icon at the bottom of screen.

How do I change an item in my basket?

Tap on the Checkout tab bar icon at the bottom of the screen to view your Basket. Then tap on the item you wish to edit, and make your changes. Note that your changes are automatically saved when you navigate back to the Basket page.

To remove an item, open the Basket page and swipe to the right across the item with one finger. Then tap on Delete.

To clear your entire Basket, simply shake the iPhone. Your Basket is also emptied when you begin ordering from a different restaurant.

How do I get back to the restaurant I was ordering from?

If you have begun an order and since navigated to a different restaurant, you can find your way back to the original restaurant by tapping on the Checkout tab bar icon at the bottom of the screen. Then navigate back up to the main checkout page, and tap on the restaurant name.

How do I repeat a past order?

Tap on the History tab bar icon at the bottom of the screen. Then choose your location to see a list of orders previously placed from that address. Tap an order to open it, and then tap Order Again at the bottom. This will replace the contents of your basket with items from the old order. You can then checkout in the normal way.

Can I pay online?

Yes, all the payment methods available on our website are also available in the app.

To pay online, simply tap Card on the Payment page. Then enter your card details and tap Pay Into Account. When done, you will be returned to the Payment page where you can select Account Balance as the method of payment.

Note that any unused money in your Account Balance is automatically refunded at the close of business each day. Please allow 3 working days for this money to appear in your bank account.

If you have previously saved your card details into your hungryhouse member profile, you can also select a saved card from the top of the list of card types (thereby removing the need to type your card details each time).

What is a "location"?

If you order takeaway from different places, you can store the address of each place in your member profile. You can also give each location a nickname (such as Home, Office, Mum's place, etc.) This makes it easy to search for restaurants as you move between each location.

Why doesn't "Nearby" search work?

Please check that the hungryhouse app has permission to "know your location". Tap on Settings, then General, then Location Services. Ensure Location Services is turned on, and that hungryhouse is also turned on.

Note you need to restart the hungryhouse app for this new setting to take effect. Also note that iOS 4.2 Apps do not close when you press the round "home" button (ie. they continue to run in the background). In this case, you should double-tap the round "home" button, touch the hungryhouse icon until you see the "-" sign, and then finally select that. This will stop the hungryhouse app, and allow you to restart it.

If Nearby still doesn't work, please check that Location Services works in other apps. You can also try on a friends iPhone/iPad, to check if the problem relates only to your device.

Also note that you can continue to use the app in the meantime, by entering your postcode manually.

Why can't I log in to my existing account?

If you have difficulty logging in with an existing hungryhouse account, log in to your account directly through the hungryhouse website. Check your Locations, and verify that they are correct. If this doesn't resolve the issue, contact our customer service team for additional assistance.
